Letter to all from Father Samaras

Dearest Parish Family Members, Sometimes, it’s amazing where you find spiritual seeds that blossom and grow within you, that spark your soul and make you think. Just this week, I found this line by the writer, Forest Gander, who said, “You who were given a life, what did you make of it?” That wakes us up. Essentially, this thought is deeply theological and deeply Orthodox. As we enter 2018 and enjoy the often-invoked (but rarely carried-through) tradition of “New Year’s Resolution,” perhaps we can take a moment and say, yes, we have been given a life, but what have we made of it? Such a statement can help us evaluate our choices and make better choices as we grow. Every Sunday, and every weekday service, we have a chance to hear such profound statements, found in the readings of our Holy Gospel and Epistle. This year, let’s collect each Sunday’s bulletin, so we can strengthen our weekday lives by re-reading the Epistle and Gospel throughout the week, and really thinking about what the messages are for us. We’re not getting younger, so let’s see what we can do to help our lives and make them truly Pneumatofovre" (“spirit-bearing”). Faithfully, Father Samaras
